LIGHT RIGID LICENCE:

Any motor vehicle more than 4.5 tonnes GVM but no more than 8 tonnes GVM.

  • Any towed trailer must not weigh more than 9 tonnes GVM.
  • Also includes any vehicle with a GVM of no more than 8 tonnes which carries more than 12 adults including the driver.

Pre-requisites

Applicants must:

  • Have held a Class C licence (not a learner) for at least one year.
  • Complete the Roads and Maritime Service Rigid knowledge test and obtain a Heavy Vehicle Competency Based Assessment (HVCBA) logbook and guidebook.

Course Duration

Applicants will receive up to 9 hours training and assessments time, however a 48 hours notice is required by Roads and Maritime Services for the final competency to be conducted.

MEDIUM RIGID LICENCE:

  • Any motor vehicle with two axles and more than 8 tonnes GVM.
  • Any towed trailer must not weigh more than 9 tonnes GVM.

Pre-requisites

Applicants must:

  • Have held a Class C licence (not a learner) for at least one year.

HEAVY RIGID LICENCE:

  • Any motor vehicle with three or more axles and more than 8 tonnes GVM.
  • Any towed trailer must not weigh more than 9 tonnes GVM.
  • Also includes vehicles in class MR and articulated Buses.

Pre-requisites

Applicants must:

  • Have held a Class C, LR or MR licence (not a learner) for periods totalling at least two years.
  • Complete the Roads and Maritime Service Rigid knowledge test and obtain a Heavy Vehicle Competency Based Assessment (HVCBA) logbook and guidebook.

Course Duration

Applicants will receive up to 10 hours training and assessments time, however a 48 hours notice is required by Roads and Maritime Services for the final competency to be conducted.

HEAVY COMBINATION LICENCE:

  • Any prime mover attached to a semi-trailer or a rigid vehicle towing a trailer with a GVM of more than 9 tonnes plus any unladen converter dolly.
  • Also includes vehicles in class HR.

Pre-requisites

Applicants must:

  • Have held a Class MR or HR licence for at least one year.
  • P2 licence holders cannot upgrade to this licence
  • Complete the Roads and Maritime Service Rigid knowledge test and obtain a Heavy Vehicle Competency Based Assessment (HVCBA) logbook and guidebook.

Course Duration

Applicants will receive 12 hours training and assessments time; if found competent then proceed for final competence test; however a 48 hours notice is required by Roads and Maritime Services for the final competency to be conducted.

BUSES:

To obtain you must:

  • Be at least 20 years of age.
  • Have held an unrestricted Australian driver licence for a total of a least 12 months in the 2 years immediately preceding the date of the application.
  • Complete a theory course with a Driver Trainer and obtain a certificate as an evidence.
  • Complete an application form.
  • Take a medical examination with your GP.
  • All forms will be provided by us. Medical can be done before you start the course.
  • The course takes up to six hours in class training.
